In 2006, three young musicians from the wilderness of Whitehorse, in the Yukon territories, gave birth to a beer-soaked and riff-fueled monster. That monster was called Sanktuary. Guitarist/vocalist Alan Binger, drummer Anders Grasholm, and bassist Cole Hume converged to create their vision of a northern nightmare, combining old-school influences like the NWOBHM and thrash metal movements with the more extreme sounds of today. The result was unlike anything the Arctic had ever heard before: fast paced melodic metal that eschewed gutteral chaos without skimping on the heaviness. And when 2nd guitarist Glen Emond joined the fold soon after, things only got heavier.
The newly completed unit promptly got to work on writing and recording a series of anthemic, head bangingly good songs, testing them at various gigs and festivals where ever and whenever possible. In 2008, the band sat down engineer Jim Holland of Seaweed Studios, and gave rise to their self-titled debut EP. Following a successful release party and superb reviews, Sanktuary now prepares to dominate the rest of Canada, and then the World.
